Our Story

(AKA The Immeowculate Conception)

It all began with a drink coaster.

Ryan is a maker by nature. When his path crossed with Karly, Travis, and Lyrissa’s, he had not one but two laser cutters, a handful of creative projects under his belt, and even more in the hopper. One of these projects was a set of laser cut coasters. But these weren't just ordinary coasters. The design was a beautiful homage to Instagram’s favorite houseplant: the Monstera.

And these charming little wooden condensation catchers would be the catalyst for our foray into small biz life and the creation of funky wearable art. 

Enter Karly.

One fortuitous day, Karly was at Ryan’s home and these coasters caught her attention.  Stunned to learn that Ryan made these lovely creations, she was struck with an exciting idea. Karly, a lover of big, bold earrings, pondered to Ryan, “Can you make this an earring?”.

Why yes, yes he could! Conveniently stocked with sheets of wood and acrylic, he set to work. 

After months of prototyping and workshopping designs, Karly and Lyrissa were given a handful of these lightweight, funky earrings which they happily wore out in the world. It wasn't long before people started to notice; they, too, wanted these earrings. 

On June 13th 2021, we decided to give the people what they wanted, and thus MeowFish Studios was born.

Why “MeowFish”?

It’s really as simple as combining cats and fish, so the real question is: why cats, and why fish?

Cats because we’re cat people. We love us some good cat content, and we appreciate the shit out of those little purr boxes. Their grip on humanity is a bit frightening, but we respect it.

Fish? If you know, you know. If not, then you’re likely unfamiliar with the lore of the fish hat. Ask us about it sometime. It’s not a cult. Or is it…?
